Captain Poll

Vote in the Gameweek 1 captain poll

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) is expected to be the most popular captain going into Gameweek 1 of the new season.

His Liverpool side play host to newly-promoted Norwich City on Friday night.

The Canaries were particularly leaky at the back last season, even as they won promotion from the Championship.

Their goals conceded tally (57) in 2018/19 was the worst inside the top four and only four teams recorded worse than that in the division’s top 12.

By contrast, Manchester City were the only Premier League team (57) to score more than Liverpool in home matche last year (55).

With Sadio Mané‘s (£11.5m) involvement in Gameweek 1 hard to guarantee, Salah seems to be the obvious candidate to benefit from such an appealing opening fixture.

Raheem Sterling (£12.0m) could be an interesting difference-maker as Manchester City prepare for a trip to West Ham.

The Hammers could be without Mark Noble (£5.0m) and Lukasz Fabianski (£5.0m) in Gameweek 1 which would make them more vulnerable than they already are to the defending champions.

Manchester City scored four times on their last league visit to the London Stadium, with Sterling notching a goal and two assists.

The England international will also be in good spirits after scoring against Liverpool in the Community Shield final on Sunday.

Harry Kane (£11.0m) is also pulling some support in ahead of Gameweek 1 as Spurs prepare for a meeting with Aston Villa.

No forward had more shots on target than Kane last season.

You can now vote in the latest captain poll below, which will be used in our Captain Sensible analysis article later in the week.

The Cancelo transfer (if it goes through) has basically put me off every City defender I was considering. At least until it's clear who the first choice full backs are. Not willing to spend 6.5 on Laporte either

Reckon Zinch + Walker start the season.

I'm going with Zinch and a 4.5 on the bench (probably someone dull like Cathcart or Montoya) to cover no-shows. If it does end up getting silly I'll move off him.

    Heaton
    TAA, VVD, Digne, Zinchenko
    Fraser, Perez, Maddison, Salah, Sterling
    Wilson

No playing subs - will change Maddison to Zaha if he moves to Everton - good enough?

Do you think Walker-Peters will start ahead of Aurier. If so he is a good pick for a cheap top-4 defender.

Why does everyone prefer TAA to robo, I know he got more points per game but he didn’t play every game last year

I assume it's just the PPG thing. I'd say Robbo is more nailed though, TAA could get rotated with Gomez occasionally. I'm on both personally.

I just listened to Az and Luke's podcast it was surprisingly good.
Just the two of them meant the motormouths could have free rein.
Anyway in thier podcast they discussed TAA it was pointed out that Trent might play less games but when he does he is more likely to score big.
Not only that by Trent is more likely to play RB against the weaker sides. Gomez for the hard games.

Personally I know what I prefer an attacking FB against weaker sides with likely clean sheets.

How about this 5-3-2 team with no Stirling:
    Pope/Heaton (depending on fixtures)
    VVD/Robbo/Laporte/Digne/AWB
    Salah, Bilva,Perez
    Kane,Wilson
    Subs Hayden, Dendonker, Greenwood
Think 5-3-2 gives better flexibility. I know it would be better with Sterling or De Bruyne but can’t find the cash, unless I downgrade Wilson to say, Rodriguez, and bring in KDB.
    Any advice welcomed, thank you.

Sorted unless United buy a forward in which case Martial is out. Only other change I see making might be McGinn for Robinson. But it’s oop heaven.

    Henderson
    TAA Robbo Luiz Holebas
    Sterling Martial Perez Robinson
    Kane Auba

He’s a short term pick for 2 weeks probably. I like both fixtures a lot. And well until very recently Sterling’s international record stank. 😉

McGinn is a possible and looks better long term but I don’t have your all consuming faith in Villa

    Feel settled on this. RMT!
    Pope (4.0)
    Robbo VVD Digne Stones Lundstram
    Salah Sterling Perez Sigurdsson (Dendoncker)
    Wilson King (Greenwood)

Attacking double up temporary, will switch King to the best emerging option in the 6-7m FWD range.
