All week I’ve gone after Stones as a pick with extreme prejudice. 23 starts out of 38 last season and benched against the fodder you want him playing. So many people caught a lifeline here.

Fair point but he only came off the bench twice so if you’ve got a solid bench, which most people will this year, it could be worse

Took him out 5min before deadline as KDB was confirmed didnt want to risk it for my bench boost , since he generally never starts with KDB

Id imagine he will start wide rigth today and not as a suport striker to Haaland like if KDB was benched, so maybe its fine

Is anybody following the Greenwood trial? I have just seen on the BBC that there will be a protest against him by a female United fan club if he is reintegrated into the squad but the same article states the charges were dropped against him, some witnesses backed out and new evidence had come to light. I haven't followed the trial, I just knew it was happening and what for so I may be missing information but I think with the information I have it is massively unfair if the charges were dropped and he is still punished through losing his job. Does anybody else have a more informed opinion?

    1. CostaCoffee
      • 12 Years
      2 years, 4 months ago

Well he did the crime and everybody knows it, including everybody at the club. Just because he’s not criminally persecuted shouldn’t make him free from other repercussions

      1. sirmorbach
        • 9 Years
        2 years, 4 months ago

This. No one can be legally punished unless legally declared guilty, but we would be doomed if life was only about legal and not moral repercussions as well.

        1. The Big Fella
          • 9 Years
          2 years, 4 months ago

Perhaps but this is just mob justice then. The charges were dropped. I am not saying either way, I think it is complicated if the circumstances of his arrest were as obvious as Costa Coffee says (I have no clue), but it raises an interesting legal/moral dilemma.

i don't know much about Greenwood either my point was just because someone was not convited does not always mean they are innocent. Well known sports star in America had a high powered legal team and got away with a double murder.

      2. The Big Fella
        • 9 Years
        2 years, 4 months ago

I do not know enough about what happened to know if he did it or not, I just read he was arrested a couple of years ago and now have read this. However, this is exactly why we have a court of law. If he is punished outside of it, despite charges being dropped, I would imagine he would have grounds for suing the club.

    2. Andy_Social
      • 13 Years
      2 years, 4 months ago

No, but it's a bit like Mendy who's lost 2 years off his career and sacked by City - and then found not guilty. Why does "justice" take so long?

      1. The Big Fella
        • 9 Years
        2 years, 4 months ago

Yes and I was certain he had done it and then one by one the charges were dropped or he was found not guilty too. He may have grounds for loss of earnings. The question about justice taking so long in Mendy's case can be probably attributed to the amount of charges (think Toney and his betting charges - it would have been much quicker if it were one incident) and the complications surrounding witnesses etc.

        1. Andy_Social
          • 13 Years
          2 years, 4 months ago

Toney kept playing until the charges were brought. Greenwood, Mendy, Giggsy all had to quit while they waited and can't go back properly.

Hard to work out whether you're being deliberately obtuse or just not the sharpest egg in the carton but three of those players that you mentioned were under criminal investigation for violent sexual and/or domestic crimes, and the other one broke a few FA by-laws.

'Why does justice take so long?'

We've underfunded our criminal justice system for years. See: overcrowded prisons, criminal barristers on strike, appalling rates of reopening.

Also see: the NHS, public transport, education, public housing, the care system etc. etc.
