Southampton are one of the most overlooked teams in Fantasy Premier League as Gameweek 1 draws ever nearer.

Only one of the Saints’ FPL assets is owned by more than 2.5% of managers: Shane Long (£5.0m), who, barring injuries, is expected to be among the substitutes when Southampton run out at Turf Moor this Saturday.

While the south coast club’s fixtures are a horror show between Gameweeks 7 and 13 (all of the sides they face in this period finished in the top nine last season), there are some more appealing encounters with Burnley, Brighton, Sheffield United and Bournemouth in the first half-dozen Gameweeks.

Pre-season results are not always a reliable barometer but the Saints are unbeaten in five matches this summer, winning four of them.

New signing Che Adams (£6.0m) has arguably been the stand-out performer, with three goals and two assists.

      Not sure Martial is the problem per se, it's the United attack. The back line is sorted now, but there are still trannys in and out to get done before we know who's lining up.

      Look at his starts under Ole last season. That would would have to change radically for me. He was very 3rd choice getting just one run of 4 games.

      If Lukaku stays that’s an issue. If he goes and gets replaced that’s also an issue.

      He was terrific under Mou!!!

        IF Lukaku stays, I can't see how he fits into OGS game plan. I think he'll be sidelined for most of the season or goes out on loan.

          I’m willing to go there if he’s consistently in but equally on principle I’m avoiding players who were consistently out last time. He very definitely fits that description.

            Lukaku has ZERO preseason mins. Rashford and Martial are joint leaders for Manchester United in regard to to preseason mins. If that doesn't have any implication of OGS's plans this season, I don't know what is.

              Tbh I’m expecting United to buy up front and Lukaku to go. Even if they don’t I’m still waiting to see Ole show any consistent faith in Martial before I go there - zero trust last time out is the deterrent.

              Comes down to risk management and options at that price point. Do agree he could fire brilliantly.

        I really hate doing the same thing as everyone else, but going without Salah is borderline stupid - I just really like the idea of him blanking and me streaking away from a huge amount of people. So many potentially good mids too, this isn't going to be easy

          He’s marginal for value if you check community article. Sterling is certainly equal value and there’s a decent argument that Sterling and Mo is a binary choice. The best midterm captain combo after week 2 looks to be Sterling Kane

          Unpopular opinion but Mo is overrrated as an fpl option, he is not ‘essential’ and there are plenty of other options. People get scared because of his ownership and are don’t even consider other options.

    Its a shame about Southampton and Newcastle assets because I can't stand it when teams alternate between good and bad fixtures every week it just makes them a no go for me. Adams and Joelinton would be great picks if they had a block of nice fixtures

    After a long thought I think I'm going to go without Robinson... Think he's a great option at 5.5m and most nailed but I dont want to be at the Lane and winning and thinking ffs I wish Robo scored instead of so and so. If he starts firing then I'll be happy if he's in my team or not. 🙂

        Looks right. Moura is far better value than Kane. Haven't calculated it but I reckon they produce fairly similar FPL totals when both are up top together

    Which team structure would you recommend

    A: 2 premium def (digne,taa) + one of guilbert/rico/Lundstrum + Martial
    - play 352 with martial as 5th mid
    - should be able to 3 defenders out as guilbert has good fixtures but not much of a defender bench

    B: 2 premium def (digne taa) + 5.5m def (Maguire) + guilbert/rico + Barkley
    - still play 352 with Barkley as 5th mid but
    - have Maguire as 3rd def with a good bench option as one of guilbett/rico will have a good fixture
