Recapping the best Crystal Palace players ahead of FPL restart

Roy Hodgson’s mid-table Crystal Palace side are next up as we continue with our team-by-team series of refresher articles ahead of the Premier League and FPL resumption.

Using the Eagles’ last six matches as a jumping-off point, we are focusing on which players were in favour and catching the eye before the coronavirus outbreak brought football to a standstill in mid-March.

We will also study longer-term trends where relevant.

Links to our analysis of other top-flight clubs can be found at the bottom of this piece.

I haven't put together a draft yet, but the 3 mentioned above so far are to be considered plus the likes of Targett/Guilbert because of the price (And attacking potential)

I've had to unfollow a lot of FPL and football related accounts for their casual racism, ignorance and 'what about' mentality.

Sad to see that people you often engage with are like this.

I follow a few FPL Twitter accounts. In the off-season one or two have switched to tweeting about politics. The odd controversial and/or distasteful tweet checked in there now and again.

You can't tell them what they can and can't do, but it really isn't the place for it. Do it on a non-FPL account. It's not worth messaging them to share that sentiment - you know how people get when it comes down to personal opinions.

Best thing to do is unfollow.

I never let it bother me. I'm kind of live and let live with people and their views no matter how vile or harsh they maybe but i wouldn't block them etc personally

Not that i would follow any FPL accounts anyway. That would make me highly hypocritical considering how i feel about the FPL twitter leeches 🙂

Sorry I'm missing something here. You followed them for FPL content rather than their friendship or political views. Draw a line between the two and except they aren't you. Instead you come across as sensitive and easily offended. I've been the victim of physical and verbal racisim that left me in fear of my own life. Casual racisim, wow. Society is becoming more sensitive and more sensitive.

Everyone deals with things in a different way, some higher levels of tolerance etc.

I just find it hard to communicate with and rather disassociate myself from someone who openly thinks less of a people like me, just because of the colour of my skin.

If that's too serious for you, no worries fella. 🙂

I grew up with gangs throwing bricks at me and calling me the n word so I'll take casual racisim from the safety of my chair any day of the week. Racisim will always exist to some extent at least in my lifetime. Its about drawing a line on what affects your life. If casual racisim leaves you too afraid to switch on your computer then fair enough.

        Excuse typo.

Kim kardashian has been accused of casual racisim. She is still doing her shows. I assume the media didn't consider her casual racisim as a major offense.

      Must be the Hazard money

Across the last 3 seasons (17/18, 18/19 & 19/20) they’ve actually spent over €500m on player arrivals (€250m on Pulisic, Jorginho, Kovacic, Kepa, €100m on Bakayoko & Morata, another €100m on Drinkwater, Zappacosta, Rudiger, €50m on Emerson, Giroud, Barkley etc etc) and under FFP that €500m is still washing through their accounts in line with the players contract durations

So that’s the guts of €100m yearly transfer amortisation expenses for a 5 year period from 17/18 straight away they have to find coverage for - hence the Courtois/Fabregas €50m transfer income last year wasn’t enough to stave off their massive 18/19 FFP losses

The Hazard & Morata €150m helps balance their books for this season but it’s effectively offsetting just over one years worth of amortisation of that €500m spending splurge

Fair play to them if they do manage to get Werner though, surely will get goals & could be part of a youth team based core of the likes of James, Tomori, Gilmour, Mount, RLC, CHO, Abraham etc

        Spot on, summed up well

Plus they've got an oligarch to bail them out if needs be. Most clubs operate with constraints

I really am jealous of them getting Werner though, and I think he will be a success there

As long as they match the other offers in terms of price/salary, Chelsea is not an easy team to challenge anyway due to location. It is a huge factor for most foreigners.

      I'd Free Hit
You've only got 2 definite DGW players in KDB & Auba, with Saka & Lundstram not nailed.
Then when you get this team back, in my opinion you should be looking at moving on - Lundstram & Ings
Barnes & Soy will be good for a couple of nice Leicester fixtures, but I'd be looking at Chelsea & Man U & Spurs and replacing Auba, when their fixtures go bad.
After that, I'd look at potential fixtures to see when you'd like to bench boost, as it looks like there won't be any more DGWs
      Hope that helps

Easy free hit. Depending on your rank there’s still lots of differential options if everyone goes for the “template”.

Mahrez, Pepe, Fleck, Lundstram, Samatta all good differential options. We’ve no idea how the extra subs and overall covid impact will have (eg aguero saying he wasn’t keen on returning). Then you can wildcard the next week knowing a little bit more about how teams are setting up (bundesliga has seen a big increase in away wins for example)

          • 9 Years
          8 months, 23 days ago

Can’t see it. If there’s a big covid impact and games moved it’s going to have a huge impact. Make use of the only DGW we have which involves the best attacking team in the league (I’ll be opting for Mahrez, KDB and sterling I think)

    Leno
    Evans - O'Connell - Saiss
    Fernandes - KDB - Mane - Salah
    Abraham - DCL/ JOTA - Jiminez

    McCarthy - Saka - Lascelles - Maguire

BB & FH available. But tbh I'm not feeling FH until we get more info.

I'd hang on to the FH and use your 2 FT's to get 8 double gameweek players.
Maybe Fleck for Grealish and Laporte for Maguire?

You look good for the DGW - save FH & use you free transfers, then look to wild card In agame week or two followed by bench boost - your a bit too heavy with Arsenal & Sheff Utd, plus you’ll be able to see what players are selected for better choice

Hi all, good to be back and hope everyone is well and managing ok? Like many who have their FH chip it's looking like i will be playing my for GW39 and just had my first crack at it. How does this look and is there anything that you would undoubtedly change? Thanks :

    Bellerin / E.Stevens / Targett
    KDB / Sterling / Pepe / Grealish
    Auba / Aguero / McBurnie

    Button McGinn, Lascelles, Simpson.

I'm not sure you can have a decent GW40 team if you don't take a free-hit in GW39. Quite a few of the GW39 players that may get chosen just aren't good enough to be taken forward. Am I wrong?

nobody freehitting with wolves or liverpool? villa and ars def/mid for instance could score 3-4pts total, not sure if 11 dgwkers is the move or not...jimenez taa for instance im debating

I’d say some may dabble for sure

But when you start with a blank XV & plug in KDB, Sterling, Kun, Auba all of a sudden budgets start getting squeezed & the likes of Salah/Mané/TAA/Doherty become tricky to fit in

Throw in the fact that their match is both away, and to Ancellotti’s Everton, & it looks less likely they will dramatically punish FH’ers with a 3 or 4 goal mauling (cue a repeat of GW19 with TAA destroying anyone with the cheek to go into a GW without him)

Salah in particular I’d be cautious on in a FH team... in that his big scores this season generally seem to arrive either when Mané isn’t on the pitch and/or when he’s playing at Anfield - and presumably Mané will be playing while they are away at Goodison

Salah away 5.1 PPA (62 points, 12 apps)
Salah home 8.9 PPA (124 points, 14 apps)
Salah with no Mané 11.6 PPA (58 points, 5 apps)
Salah with Mane 5.9 PPA (130 points, 22 apps)

GW40 though Palace could be in for a spanking, particularly if Liverpool need to “bounce” back from a dodgy result at Goodison & take that big step towards mathematically sewing things up

Or alternatively they will go ahead & wallop Everton 7-0 with Salah/Mané hattricks & TAA getting a goal + 6 assists, who knows...

    Shameful repost on correct article..

Hey gents, good to be back after the long hiatus. I’ve been out of the loop - so the only double/blank will be the opening GW restart correct? FH then seems the obvious move. How does this FH squad look?

    Leno
    TAA Egan Basham
    KDB Mahrez Pepe Grealish
    Auba (c) Aguero Jiménez

    3.9 Hayden Hanley Simpson

Hi Irbox. Guess I might as well show my fairweather face again now things are moving.
My feeling is that any thoughts about good/bad fixtures, on-form players etc is an utter lottery.
I think the teams at the bottom will put up a desperate fight, but who else will? I can see Man City being push-overs on the basis that they'll preserve all their efforts for the Champions League, trying to win it ahead of their ban. Liverpoll too have the league sewn up and might cruise after the Everton game.
I think defences in particular will be vulnerable, with plenty of positional errors, so I might prioritise 3 cheapies at the back (I'm good with Heno, Lundy, Egan and one other for now.
I also half-anticipate a rash of muscle injuries, so I'd avoid any expensive players who have a bit of a record on those.

Looking at your squad, your keeper and back line look good to go - after the Everton game I myself will consider as part of a 2FT letting TAA go for the reasons I've given. I'm sceptical over your 3 top-level City players for the reasons I've given. I've sneaked Foden in as my 5th Mid as I can see him getting time while players are rested for CL. I wonder if Sane might get a league run-out (although I'm not punting for him myself). The rest of your squad looks good to me.

10 days to go and we are only up to C for crystal palace and we are only up to the budget goalkeepers in the price/position article series.

They have given themselves too much to do which means articles close to the deadline like captain sensible and the scout picks will be rushed and will suffer.

The front 7 will be changed from

    Salah Pepe Mahrez Foden
    Auba Jota Ayew

    To

    Salah deBruyne Mahrez Foden Saka
    Auba Jota

      Not planned right now.
But the whole level of uncertainty over everything games, getting postponed is easiest thin to expect.

So i think their will be more games that needs to be rearranged in the future.

Having said that, i have only FH remaining & still having a 50-50 decision about whether to use it in 39 or not ...
