If you could only own ONE of Bruno or Salah for the whole of next season - who would you go for?

Bruno. I think Salah needs a lot of chances, and it's a gamble whether Liverpool will provide enough chanced for him to compete with penaldo, and enough verve for Salah to have confidence enough to get shots on target. I don't think aqcuireing Jota in recent times is enough to bolster the attack and chances made, so perhaps the Summer addition(s) will be important for this decision. Perhaps Ox is like a new signing though!

Honestly, neither. I think the top five priced midfielders have been pitched generally around 1m above their true worth and are worth avoiding en masse. Basically, you're working with a 99m/98.5m budget if you have any of them in your team. There's much better value elsewhere.

That's not to say that there will be times in the season when their inflated prices will actually be fairly reasonable of course. It's all about the fixtures.

and the price and points of the combination of other players in your team

Very true. But if they had a hot streak weeks ago and form has dipped I don't think easier looking fixtures will revive them. But easier looking fixtures for a player starting some form can be golden.

I'm not 100% sure what that means (I'm basically a simpleton btw) but I'll tell you this...there's a couple of players in the game who the FPL have really dangled a carrot with. I won't tell you who they are because I want them all for myself but I'm amazed that posters have only tippy-toed around them so far.

I imagine, as there appears to be nothing to the contrary that i can find in the rules, that the Fanteam Euro 2020 final team can only consist of 6 players due to the limit of only 3 per team, has anyone got a definitive answer regarding knowledge to the contrary?

    Thank you

You can have up to seven. https://www.fanteam.com/support-questions/soccer and the Euro game is the second option down.

Just found this link myself tonight, having earlier scrolled through FFS articles from a month ago as I remembered there was a flyer that contained the rules but couldn't get it from the FanTeam site itself! I find it so difficult to navigate FanTeam.

LL in FPL would be pointless. Everyone would just save for a DGW. At least with FH, you have the viable option to play in BGW (which - let's be honest - is why the chip was introduced). Personally would like either:

    1. FH chip to apply to BGWs only.
    2. FH chips to auto-activate any/every time there's a BGW.

We could have a separate LL chip instead of the second WC, but not as well as. Would rather reduce chips than increase.

      3. No FH chip

    2. FPL Theorist

Agreed that LL would be boring, everyone would get all the same premium assets with the best DGW fixtures. It would actually be more interesting if they waived the 3-per-team restriction on FH rather than the budget restriction.

Although I don't think it's bad that you can play FH in a DGW.

      1. Deulofail
        • 10 Years

I like the idea of waiving the 3-per-team restriction on FH (actually would like that in general). I could make BGWs even more exciting. However, I think I would be even more inclined to save for a DGW to pile on 5-15 City players

  9. Wolves bargains under Lage
    schlupptheweek
    • 11 Years
    4 years, 9 months ago

I know the season is a long way a way but Wolves could provide a few bargains given Bruno Lage's trust in youth and attacking 4-4-2 formation. We will very likely buy a striker but given we're unlikely to spend much money Fabio Silva could start the season in a front 2 with Podence and Neto injured. Hoever for 4.0M is another who could be given a chance given Jonny is injured and Semedo could play left back and right back. Marcal is getting on a bit and has been very injury prone, although I still rate him as a left back. Then with Neves likely to be leaving and Moutihno's age there could be a slot for Otasawie or Gibbs-White as a box to box midfielder. One of the 2 could even be utilised in a front 2.
Everything is up in the air and new signings change the picture, but a bench fodder from Wolves or cheap striker could be gold. If your a risk-taker you could dip straight in, while the more risk-averse players can watch with interest.

    1. lugs
      • 8 Years
      4 years, 9 months ago

yeah i have Gibbs-White as my 4.5m fodder atm, but i'm keeping an eye on Podence too as i think he has the potential to be the best 5.5 if Lage's attacking reputation holds true

Sorry forgot about the post. Alt Nouri was on loan with an option to buy for £20m, not sure if they'll buy him but we'll see. Marcal is a LB and is a good experienced player but he's been so injury prone and the coach might favour youth but obviously Marcal could be required as too much youth could be risky.
Hoever will never be nailed on and is an unlikely start, but as a 4.0M he has the highest points potential, it will be a question of when the chance will come in the first 10 games.

Don't trust the manager tbh. The money has dried up over the last few seasons (have had to sell a lot of 'goals' in Doherty and Jota to fund replacements who aren't as good). Some of the players aren't good enough to play in a 4-4-2 and will get overrun in midfield. Not clear whether Jimenez will be back to his old form after his injury.

The players could respond really well to having Nuno's shackles thrown off, especially early on if they get a good new manager bounce

Neto in particular looks like he could go up a division easily enough, ridiculously talented kid for his age

If Jimmy comes back the same player they'll be a better side than last year imo

Still too many other options elsewhere to entertain starting with any of them though

Neither a lock in nor a trap. Just a more nailed Holding. Reasonable value, but unlikely to be the best value at any given time. Tierney is only 0.5 more with plenty of attacking and bonus potential, so I wouldn't look at White unless I already had Tierney, or if Tierney was injured, or maybe if Tierney was playing in back 3, or if I really could only muster 4.5 due to other priorities.

Lot of your budget tied up in defense. Doherty 5.0 on bench is a luxury, go to a 4.5 or even 4.0 to release funds, also Mendy to a 5.0 Keeper would allow you upgrade Pukki (tough games to start season).

Agree with Gunner. You could even use the money you save by downgrading Mendy and Doherty to upgrade Obafemi to a playing striker like Joao Pedro. I'd go for Toney over Pukki due to fixtures.

      - Villa's fixtures swing drastically from GW4, got a plan for Jack, Buendia and Watkins?
      - No plans for Liverpool full-back/City defender?
-Bachmann/Sanchez as 4.5/4.5 rotation looks good for the early run-in.

They're very tempting at those 4.5 prices though. I don't think there's another 4.5 keeper I'd choose ahead of Sanchez, even without White.
I'd have one defender with those opening fixtures too. I'd say Lamptey has the best chance to grab assist/goal points.

          Thanks guys.
I'll chose between veltman or lamptey.
Liverpool and city players too high price and risky after long season plus euro.
          will monitor though.
I remember last season they did not start well

    Rate my squad:

Don; alba, spina, maehle, dumfries; Gini, Hojberg, Berardi; Benzema, Immobile, Depay

    Subs: Stek, Kimpembe, KDB, Forsberg

    1.
    A. Alba/kimpembe
    B. Alba/Stones or Gosens

    2.
    A. Damsgaard or Locatelli/Gosens
    B. Kimpembe/Hojberg

If I put in Gosens for Kimpembe, I can upgrade Hojberg to Locatelli for 4th Italian or Damsgaard, but French more likely for clean sheet which will bring points but depends how Eng/Ger play.

Would of been great if I could upgrade Hojberg to Barella, Grealish, or Kulusevski although don't want 2 Swedes.

    Still have my wildcard

Probably. Belotti was nowhere near impressive enough vs Wales to challenge.
I suspect the only changes to the main XI will be Verrati in place of Locatelli, and Acerbi/Bastoni in place of Chiellini.

Why not? He's the first choice and played well in both the matches.
Was just rested in the third match as they had already qualified

I like the look of this for now.

    Sanchez
    Alexander-Arnold Chilwell Digne Fofana
    Salah Fernandes Foden Smith-Rowe
    Watkins Antonio

    Bachmann Mbeumo Dennis B.Williams

    - Sanchez/Bachmann rotation is fantatastic
    - Chilwell becomes Dias/Zinchenko/Stones for GW2. This takes advantage Chelsea's opening game vs Palace and dodges City's game vs Spurs.
    - In GW4, Watkins becomes whichever Wolves attacker nails a place. Whether Jimenez, Silva, or some new signing.
    - Rotation between Fofana, Smith-Rowe, Mbeumo and Dennis rotate well bar GW8 in the first 10 games. Each week 2 of them gets subbed.
    GW1 Fofana, Smith-Rowe
    GW2 Mbeumo, Dennis
    GW3 Fofana, Mbeumo
    GW4 Smith-Rowe, Dennis
    GW5 Smith-Rowe, Mbeumo
    GW6 Fofana, Dennis
    GW7 Fofana, Mbeumo
GW8 Smith-Rowe (bad games for the other 3)
    GW9 Fofana, Dennis
    GW10 Mbeumo, Dennis
    - While Liverpool/United good ealy run end at GW6, Chelsea's start from GW7. Possibly wildcard for that fixture switch, or use FTs to switch around the premiums for that. Maybe Bruno+Foden->KdB+Havertz. Digne to Chilwell if possible.

      Rotation never works.
Fofana had 7 Clean sheets last season.
      4 of them were
      Arsenal (A)
      Wolves (H)
      Tottenham (A)
      Chelsea (H)

He got his only assist and only double digit score (10) against Tottenham away.
When you rotate, you'll never play him any of these fixtures.

Fair point. Didn't know that about Fofana, thanks.

Last season was a bit of an aberration, where home field advantage was literally zero-point-zero. I expect this season to revert back to the norm, which is defenders averaging roughly 27% more points per match at home than they do away (+/- 5% every year for the 4 previous seasons that I've been modeling).

And defenders on average score WAY more points per match against offenses with fixture difficulty rating 2 versus those with FDR 4. And that didn't change last year (although Fofana, as you pointed out, did not get the memo in his small sample size against FDR 4 offenses). Defenders on average netted about 62% more PPM against FDR 2 than FDR 4 offenses, roughly in line with the previous 4 seasons. Incidentally they also scored roughly 20% higher PPM against FDR 2 than FDR 3 offenses over the past 5 seasons.
So you're entitled to your opinion of course, and finding a successful rotation is indeed difficult, but to say "rotation never works" using cherry-picked results from one player's small sample size in a statistically oddball season would not be quite accurate (in my opinion).

I agree to last season being different.
Saying that 'it never works' was probably wrong on my part.
But at the same time can you confirm this trend is present for teams like Leicester as well?
One huge problem in FDR is Liverpool vs worst team will be 2 for Liverpool.
Also, Lei/wham vs the worst team would be 2 FDR, so that doesn't really help.
I certainly expect TAA/Robertson/Chilwell to perform better against FDR2 sides than FDR 4 ones.

If you have the data handy you can probably check by different Tier teams. Another thing to check could be - Does this trend hold true if we exclude 5m+ defenders? Because we are primarily looking at 4.5 defs for rotation

I like your suggestion to look at 4.5m defs. I'm going to take a look at that over the weekend and get back to you.
I'll also dive more into if there's a difference between the Liverpools vs FDR 2 teams and the bottom half vs FDR 2 teams. There may be something there, although I'll tell you the stats I provided above are for EVERYBODY vs FDR 2, so it's a pretty pervasive phenomenon.
By the way, I appreciate that you very skillfully turned a conversation that could have been argumentative into something that could be collaborative and constructive. You don't see that very often these days. 1,000 points to you my friend.

Also, planning so long ahead is not a great idea.
Till GW 10 you would have had 10 free transfers, so you can easily end up switching whole of your starting 11.
I guess 60-70% on here would have also played their WC by then.
No point in planning in ahead so much

I agree with you in not being a big fan of this draft and the planning ahead. Whilst I take your point about rotation, I'd much rather keep a 4.5 defender on my bench than a non-playing 4m one. I'd be happy for Fofana to step off my bench in any game, which means I might avoid a hasty transfer if one of my first-choice midfielders or strikers has to sit out a game.

Depends on the structure doesn't it?
If you also have a 4.5 mid that can come on for 2/3 points, is it worth to spend 0.5 extra on Fofana for 2/3 additional points( assuming he gets a clean sheet, and 6 seems to be his ceiling) in a couple weeks
Rather than upgrading your starting 11 with 0.5 which can have a much higher impact than 5-6 points over first 10 weeks.

If you're going with 5 mids, than I agree to having atleast one 4.5 def for your bench.

While true, the 'stalwarts' mostly will not change. For example Trent and Mo, I have no plans taking them out, even through a tough run. Each week I will play my City,United and Liverpool players, regardless of fixtures.
The premium switch up will probably happen after GW6, when United's turn down while City go up.
