Anyone else doing the Telegraph fantasy game?

Just for a laugh, one of the teams I entered had the entire Italy back line, plus Jorginho, Immobile, Insigne and Berardi yet still only managed 310th.

You're banking on at least two attacking returns from your remaining players. If you think there is a good chance of at least one of them doing that, twist. At most you might lose a few points or possibly score a bunch more.

      3. If in a ML you care about, stick
If you are trying to win the whole thing, twist.

What happens if Eriksen depay Torres only get one goal each or blank. Say Torres has 6 points if you move the armband to CR7 and he blanks you get zero, so it's a stick I reckon

Ronaldo 4 goal involvements in 9 games for Portugal since November 2020. Luxemburg, Andorra (2) Israel. Hungary at home. 8 points already in the bag. Is it not crazy to pin hopes on a better return? Seems to me Ronaldo can hurt rather than help.

      1. Not just Ronaldo though - 3 more shots before you even get to him (assuming squad was picked right)

        1. Eze Really?

I hear you and I am certainly not a guru but:
Talking about Ronaldo, to captain him means you have failed to that point.
To beat 8 points, Ronaldo as a captain must get 2 returns.
If he gets more points (more than 8) the likely upside, say 2 goals is 10 points. Is it worth a 2 point gain and risk 6 points for no returns when this is more likely than a guessed 5 to 1 punt?

      2. Holmes
        • 12 Years
        5 years, 4 days ago

Risk Reward and all that. I personally feel the upside is limited if you are switching captaincy to a forward. He would need a hat trick or triple attacking return to make any relevant difference, otherwise its going to be a 3-4pts difference.

If you have a midfielder as captain (today/tomorrow) and Ronaldo as safety blanket for last day, then it could be worth it.

I personally think with bonus, less 1 point for a goal and 1 point for a cleanie paying the +-3 mil extra for a forward does not make sense. Point per million far more important in this game and benching players who can score to cover the 5 from 11 2 pointers or less you are likely to get is the key to doing well. As I said, no expert though.

Insigne with one return on day 1 is twist for me if you have Eriksen/Lukaku/Depay/Torres/Cr7 in line waiting.

One of them will have 2 returns.

G+A from any C midfielder outscores Insigne by 6 points. Thats a fwd with goal return.

Spina on the other hand is tricky one.

It is all about being peed off by wasting Insigne points are being peed off about not getting Kaku/whoever points.

Lots pinning their hopes on Lukaku today. I'm not so sure he'll do as well as many are expecting.

Not only are Russia a decent side, Belgium have De Bruyne missing, plus Hazard (Eden) isn't fully match fit and probably wont start.

Keeping Insigne (C) is just incredibly boring. You’ll be sitting there every night hoping all your potential captains score less than 8, i think odds are in your favour of finding 1 captain with 8+, especially with the likes of Ronaldo, Depay, Eriksen, Lewandowski, Kane

Every time you save your team, you'll need to pick a captain from your starting XI. That player's points will be doubled for that matchday.

If your captain doesn't score as highly as you'd like, you have the option to switch to another player who is in action on a later day within that matchday. In fact, because matchdays are spread across several days, you can switch your captain several times – giving you the chance to double the score of a different player you think will do better in that matchday. However, bear in mind that if you aren't happy with your new captain's score, you won't be able to change back.

I’m reading lots of comments on here saying that sticking with an 8 point captain is the ‘sensible’ move. I disagree…

Estimated probability of each of these players getting over 8 points:

          1) Lukaku - 25%
          2) Depay - 20%
          3) Olmo - 10%
          4) Ronaldo - 20%

Combined probability that at least one gets over 8 points is: 57%

Therefore, sensible thing, in my opinion, is to twist!

A bird in the hand bud. Not saying don't punt but probabilities for any major gain are less likely than a loss. Close enough though to punt if you want IMO. I just won't be doing it.

Seeing that makes me for convinced to stick. Each event on its own it looks like it’s unlikely they’ll outscore the 9 points.

Also how many people have all of those players so could line them up in that way? A lot of people might only have 2-3 of those and so less rolls of the dice

Yip. 1/12 of games gone. You won't have a player in every remaining game but I'll guess at least one of your remainder will get 8 points or better.

Romelu Lukaku to score 1 or more goals & assist 1 or more goals
            @16/1
Ie 6% and 5 to 1 to score 2 so with overlap ~20%
            Depay looks around 16%
            Olmo around 8%
No Ronaldo odds but let’s be generous and match Lukaku.ie 20%

So chance of not getting a better score is 0.8x0.84x.92x0.8 = around 50%. It’s fairly marginal and cards/missed pens/not starting/injury could impact the above. However, there is upside ie they could get a hat trick. What I don’t like about twisting is if lukaku fails the odds get much worse plus if olmo gets 6 points it’s then high risk to twist for ronaldo.

Overall both strategies are fine so play whichever way makes you happy.

Twist. If none of your other 4 captains score 6 points or more you may as well put your feet up for the rest of the summer and just enjoy watching the football.

8-9 points in this game should be considered a haul - no baps

2 attacking returns, a CS and an assist - sure there are going to be bigger hauls but these returns shouldn't be so easily dismissed

Those who have Carrasco and Lukaku, who do you put as captain today?
The midfielder can get an extra point for clean sheet and goal.

Does anyone know if you sub out a player that hasn’t played yet for a player that hasn’t played yet (because got starting line up order wrong) whether you can then sub the player that you are taking out back in later. Obviously if they have played then I know you cant.

Quick question guys ... Can I put for example the armband on Bale today for the first game, and then if I am not happy with his points I change the captaincy on another match played later on today (Lukaku)?

Lets see who are the whipping boys in GW1, will make it easier.

As of now, I would go with Depay, Kane, Mbappe/Griezmann as front 3. In midfield, Wijnaldum, Golovin and Forsberg might do well. Insigne/Berardi remains good shout. Calhagnolu as an outside punt.

Why did Spinazzola score 9pts but Berardi only scored 6pts?

They both had the same stats, but Spinazzola scored 4pts for his clean sheet whereas Berardi only scored 1pt for the clean sheet…. Explain?

                      Thats how points system works?

Spinazzola is a defender, thats why he gets 4pts
Berardi is a mid, thats why he gets only 1pt.

Thats true, but in this round I feel their are more expensive as compared to GW3. For instance, my GW2 frontline will be Depay/Mbappe/Kane which cost 33.5 whereas GW3 frontline would be Mueller/Luka/Depay which cost 30m.

Likes of Pavard and Zinchenko in defense in GW2 etc.
