FanTeam

Changes to FanTeam’s scoring system from June

FanTeam are introducing a new scoring system ahead of this summer’s European Championships.

This fresh set-up will be in place across all their football tournaments from Friday, June 11.

What’s changing and why?

Currently, FanTeam provides players with one extra point for a win when they’re on the pitch, deducting one for a defeat. These will reduce to +0.3 for a win, and -0.3 for a loss.

This will reduce the impact of a team’s performance and put more focus on the individual you’ve selected. Ultimately this change will make more players desirable, especially in formats with only a few fixtures.

Players will now be rewarded for a shot on target. Forwards and midfielders will receive 0.4 points per accurate effort, defenders 0.6 and goalkeepers will get a whole additional point. This additional metric rewards attacking play, while reducing the amount of ties in our tournaments.

A shot on target is simply a shot that’s going in, but is stopped by the last line of defence. This could be a goalkeeper, an opposing player ‘on the line’, or even your own teammate if they’re goal-hanging.

However, it is worth noting that points for a shot on target are not awarded when a goal is scored from the effort, either if the player is the scorer or is awarded the assist.

Changes seem fair, although personally think the extra points (even fractions of points) for a win or loss should be totally done away with.

Nah, it isn't that good. You have to pay to enter and you are up against loads of other managers for a prize. Fantasy5 is better IMO because it is free to enter (other than giving them your details to get an account).

Personally, I really like it. I played their PL and CL games and finished in profit on both. I've started playing a lot of their other games related to footy and am in profit just about with them too. But I play the cheaper games so if I lose it's no big deal, I mainly do it for fun with chance of winning serious dosh. A lot of people on there enter the max (normally 10 but sometimes 20 I think) teams with a view to increasing chances of getting dosh, I can't be bothered with that.

    Thoughts on this :

    Hradreky - Donurumma
    Florenzi - P.Torres - Stones - D.Ligt - Denayer
    F.Torres Chiesa Mount B.Silva Nego
    Lukaku Kane Pukki

2 out of Lukaku or Kane or Ronaldo is a toss up.

Think Jota could also be an alternative to B.Silva.

Not sure about Nego as it's likely we will need all 3 of our bench players.

Nego is a bad punt purely as you'll play him on last day. You want a really strong bench for last or 2nd last day

I understand the rationale of giving players new contracts in order to keep balance sheet value/potential selling price up rather than letting them leave for nowt, but in Utd's case over recent years it just means they have a load of players that they are paying that they don't really want and that nobody else wants either. I am not an accountant, but is this not a stupid thing to do?

You're probably right, but I'd imagine there are plenty of home grown CBs at PL clubs who are not first choice who are better than and would cost less than Jones (and Lindelof and possibly even Maguire and certainly less injury prone than Bailly) even inc. transfer fee.
Or at least have a young lad as 5th choice CB who might actually benefit from the experience of the odd 1st team game.

It's not a quota issue, Man Utd have 12 of a maximum 17 non home-grown players (that's the main limiting factor as the 8 home grown players don't have to be filled if the club is willing to go with fewer than a 25-man squad, eg Man City only have 5 HG). Mata and Romero are presumably leaving which clears another 2 spaces as well.

Potential captain for all 5 matchdays. Ronaldo is perfect final cover if rest goes tits up.

    Hradecky.
Kjaer. Bonucci(Cap1). Meunier. M. de Ligt. Hinteregger.
    Alaba(Capt3). Zakaria. KdB.
    Lukaku(Cap2). Wind.

    Subs: Chesney. Rodri(Capt4). Fernandez. Ronaldo(Cap5)

Took me a moment to work out who Chesney was….. I think balance not quite right with too much in defence and not enough in midfield - assume you mean Bruno who not sure is such a good option for Portugal at his price so could reduce value there a bit also. Rodri not really a fantasy option but can see why you went for him at that price. Sorry if being overly negative

Delighted to welcome Andy North (@fplmode) to the Pro Pundits team.

Andy will be helping me with the EURO 2020 content and will be staying on for the 2021/22 FPL season.

If you're not familiar with Andy, he is the host of the frankly awesome Championship Manager Fantasy series and also hosted "The Wolf Pod". You can get an idea of his style of presenting with this interview he did with Mark Sutherns.

    https://www.buzzsprout.com/678485/8198002

My hope for Andy is he injects some real entertainment into the videos. He's a great host, loads of energy and I think he'll be great to listen to. He'll be working closely with Mark and I on members videos next year and will be involved in other core Scout videos too.

If you want to drop him a hello, you can here:

The change to the Impact Points on Fanteam probably is a good idea. As they explained in their email, 'Ultimately this change will make more players desirable, especially in formats with few fixtures'.

But won't the other rule change have the opposite effect? We're going to be funneled down the route of picking players who get off a high volume of shots, thus making fewer players desirable.

Overall there might be a balancing effect, but why couldn't they just keep it simple? There are other games with more complex scoring matrices. I thought Fanteam's USP was an FPL clone - staying as true as possible to the game we all know and love?

No surprises there, Southgate does seem loyal to those he likes.

Personally wouldn't have taken Lingard anyways. Now Coady over the likes of Godfrey on the other hand...

    2. diesel001
      • 7 Years
      2 years, 10 months ago

I agree with that decision tbh. Lingard is streaky and his streak is over.

But why are we taking so many RBs? JWP would have been a better option than one of them. Even Godfrey as he is flexible across the back line. Coady's inclusion is interesting - does Southgate want to play three at the back?

  13. Treadstone

4 rightbacks is ridiculous...not an Everton fan but should have taken Godfey who can cover any position in the back 4 or 5.

    1. Hazz

      Eh, its alright tbh.

      - Walker can play RCB/RB
      - James can play RCB/RB/RWB
      - Trent plays RB, but could do RWB?
      - Tripper can play RB/RWB & LWB too.

Given the squad it feels like we'll be playing 343/3421 primarily.

It probably is surplus to requirements but:

      - Having Walker & James helps cover the RB spot.
      - RWB is covered by Tripper/James.
      - Trent is a good option for 4ATB if we switch to that. RWB is an option too, but not sure.

Honestly Trent probably starts the least & I can't see him being subbed on. (Starting a RCB & RWB means getting a standalone RB on is a few changes...)

Maybe starts with 1 match against weaker opposition, unless they plan to use him on midfield as a later sub.

Correct, so you want to have a viable Captain option for each of June 11, 12, 13, 14, 15.
With 5 days you will be unlucky not to have a double-digit base score for your capt.
      So for instance:
      Chiesa Lukaku Kane Morata Gnabry

All change at Wolves, Palace, Everton and Spurs and with Brentford new to the PL its going to be quite unpredictable at the start of next season I reckon. I am not counting Norwich and Watford as they went down so recently and have kept similar squads.
